biography
Angelique Mégane Paméole is a soprano from the suburbs of Lyon. A self-taught musician, she learned to play music instantly by the age of seven on a recorder.
Born on June 21st this unique talent learned to play both the flute and the saxophone at the Vénissieux music school, which also serves as the municipal Museum of the Resistance and Deportation. Initially studying law and political science, she only turned to music and musicology in her twenties, earning a bachelor's degree and then a master2's degree in research in 2018 from Lyon II University. It was as part of her research that she participated in the world premiere of a work not performed in France for 185 years, in collaboration with CNSM of Lyon and thanks to significant sponsorship. Her specialization in operatic singing began at the Vaulx-en-Velin Municipal Conservatory and then at the Mâcon Departmental Conservatory, in two various professors after being turned down by several major institutions.
It was her encounter with the venerable Lyon tenor Jan-Marc Bruin that truly changed her destiny. During her studies at the Mâcon Conservatory, Angelique  also attended diligently eight years of masterclasses with Jan-Marc Bruin who provided with opportunities to meet international artists such as mezzo-soprano Gundula Schneider, dramatic soprano Sara Matarranz, Heather Newhouse, Yann Toussaint, and dramatic soprano Sylvie Vaylare.
A journey fraught with obstacles, who allowed Angelique Mégane to become between June 2023 an 2024 the first singer from the French suburbs to win four first prizes and one third international prize in one year*. Angelique Mégane was able to perform solo roles from her earliest years of study in operettas** and also became the first Black French performer to appear directly on the French stage in non-stereotypical solo roles of prima donna in 2016.
Her academic research led her to become a pioneer in the French university chair of "cultural studies" in musicology. Since completing her academic research between 2015 and 2018 on the place of Black performers in the field of opera, competitions such as "Voix des Outre-mer" (Voices of the Overseas Territories) and "Grandes Voix Lyriques d’Afrique" (Great Lyric Voices of Africa) were created as early as 2018, demonstrating a growing awareness within the French cultural sphere.
The singer also appeared in contemporary performances under the direction of Tal Isaac Hadad in 2019 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon.
Then; 2022 also marked her debut with the Mâcon Symphony Orchestra, where she sang the solo in Rutter's "Kyrie eleison 'Mass of Children" under the direction of conductor David Hurpeau.
